Just When You Get Comfortable

Finally, a character! My apologies for the less-than-dynamic pose or camera angle - I was just trying to see how usable a character render I could create. Not as good as a drawing, obviously, but I still think it works fairly well, stylistically, and with more attention paid to pose, expression and layout, could be a viable format for web- or print comics. The character is a blend of both a standard 3D render and one with toon lines included, and I've accentuated the important inner lines in order to give them better contrast, while keeping the face fairly clear, and of course I added a 2px border to him to pop him out of the background a bit. The background is also a blend, with the bed, table and TV rendered with thinner lines than the walls behind them; altogether, it's probably 5 separate renders, much more complex than the ship pages.

To get his skin tones, I moved the texture maps again from the diffuse to the value channel, and pushed them to 300%; for his hands and nails, I just went with a solid color of the same value as his facial textures, in order to avoid muddy details.
