Description
recently uncovered a long-lost trove of books that rarely show up on lists of Star Trek novelizations: the Star Trek Premiere collection, a series of adaptations of classic SF stories, often by or with the input of the original writers! I know I had never heard of them, and, being the awesome guy that he is, he sent me one of the novels, a fascinating version of one of my own favorite movies, The Day the Earth Stood Still. The book obviously has been well-used, and I have to be careful with the pages, which now are 40 years old and a bit fragile (I suspect the books were in a box in a basement for much of their lives ). One thing I thought was interesting about the story was that, while it was based on the original short story "Farewell to the Master" and not on the screenplay, it was also about a different starship than Enterprise, the U.S.S. Carpenter, and its commander, Captain Rennie! Nice take on the actor who played Klaatu, and his Earthly alias .

Gort looks awfully similar to Dr. Manhattan, from Alan Moore's 'Watchmen'- in fact, when I saw a preview of this picture, I thought it was a crossover with the graphic novel!
