Description
While rendering the landing platform, I dredged up an older model of mine for a size comparison, a 1950s-style rocket that wasn't a whole lot more than a hood ornament, and of course, I got distracted . I've used it in a couple previous pix, showing it at different scales:
This time, something compelled me to detail it a bit more, which has mostly been separating its stages. So this new render is very much a WIP, and I'm going to go back to finish the landing platform, but I hope to come back to this in the new year and more fully 'NASA-fy' it, while retaining its '50s-era sleekness.
EDIT: More detail added - in keeping with a classic rocketship, this one has multiple decks, perpendicular to its centerline, and I've added windows to each of them. I also visually divided the habitat section from the lifter with a corrugated section, inspired again by NASA rockets of the 1960s. And I added a ring of retro rockets around the base of the separate crew capsule, capable of blasting it free if needed, or steering the ship in flight. Unseen here, the capsule has a full heat shield with a hatch, and a matching hatch in the top interface of the main rocket. I left the main hatch a different color for contrast; inside the capsule, I figure a crew of about 6 would be in vertical couches arranged around the centerline, facing outward and reclined, similar to those in the MAV in the movie "The Martian".
